Cook is a clever franchise with several outlets based across the UK including one in the popular area of West Bridgford, Nottingham ran by the lovely duo Clair and Steve.

With it being the season of Festivities, Cook have recently launched their new Christmas menu and I was delighted when asked if I’d like to sample some of the dishes for myself…

The concept of cook is simple, freshly prepared, healthy dishes, frozen for your ease, so that all that is required is a hot oven and an appetite. Having seen the shop front a few times myself when walking past, I’ve often wondered how it works and well now I know and there’s no going back, as I’m well and truly hooked and so allow me to share with you…

As someone who works full time running my own business, has a large family and an active social life, I often find that cooking becomes bottom of my list of priorities, I wouldn’t say I’m particularly good at it, nor do I really enjoy it all that much and so for a busy professional Cook is the ideal solution.  It allows myself and my fiancé to choose different dishes from either the shop itself or online and order a selection of healthy meals to be delivered (if required) to the door and no preparation is required – just cooking time.

As December is upon us, the exciting Christmas menu is now in store and includes an array of vegetable side dishes all lovingly prepared with lots of flavour, a resounding favourite amongst us being the honey-glazed carrots cooked with thyme- absolutely delicious!  Other side dishes include cauliflower cheese made with vintage cheddar cheese sauce and topped with a mature cheddar and parsley crumb- one of the highlights!  Parmesan parsnips, roasted in olive oil and Parmigiano Reggiano with cracked black pepper, traditional roast potatoes (vegetarian) cooked in award winning rapeseed oil, brussel sprouts with chestnuts, sage and red onion, braised red cabbage and bramley apples slowly braised in red wine and redcurrant jelly. Other must have traditional Christmas side dishes included the tasty stuffing with Speldhurst Cumberland sausage Meat, Cranberries and Leeks and the Pigs in Blankets- (Speldhurst chipolatas wrapped in bacon).

Additional extras include condiments such as the Cook bread sauce, rich and creamy made with sourdough bread crumbs, onion, thyme, bay and cloves and the cranberry sauce made with port and a hint of chilli.  Gravy is also available of course.

For the main event, the choice was very impressive and we opted for the stuffed turkey breast for two, the breast being of English rose variety, wrapped in sweet-cured bacon with a handmade chestnut, cranberry and sausage meat stuffing.  For the vegetarian family members, we enjoyed the goats cheese and mushroom filo parcels with cranberries and truffle oil, which came in a pack of two and very large in size, so in fact they could potentially cover four people if split, which is exactly what we did – not bad for £12!

Desserts are aplenty at Cook and after some deliberation, we opted for the chocolate orange pavlova- Chocolate meringue pavlova filled with whipped cream blended with fresh orange and dark chocolate flakes- very light and rich in taste- a festive sweet treat and not much is needed either per portion so not too bad on the waste line!

What I love about Cook is not only is the food of exceptional quality, but that the branding is really quirky, the website is super easy to navigate around with clear pictures and descriptions of all of the dishes, everything is categorised for ease and there are always bundle and package offers to be had, which makes the shopping experience enjoyable.  Delivery is an option on online orders, making it even easier for those with no time to do a supermarket shop and Cook also cater for babies and young children with their own healthy range of baby food and children’s menu.  Of course dietary requirements are taken into consideration with plenty of vegetarian, vegan, gluten and dairy free options available and they even put symbols next to each dish to indicate how hot/spicy it is, whether it’s under 400 calories or one of their best sellers.

Cook is a great way to easily entertain guests in your home with their buffet and party food selection too, which of course would also work really well around Christmas time, the choice of dishes really are endless and I very much look forward to incorporating Cook West Bridgford into my regular diet and routine going forward starting Christmas 2016!
