The Urban Rooms within Urban Escape based in Crown Plaza Hotel, Nottingham recently opened their doors to showcase their brand newly refurbished spa facilities and with that launched some amazing spa packages and treatments , alongside using the Espa product range, so I went along to experience it for myself…
The twilight package was what I had in store for me after I finished a busy day in the office and boy was I ready for it. The package is designed for those who prefer to go to a spa and relax during the evening after work, as a way of helping you wind down after a busy and hectic day- what a great idea!
Upon arrival I was greeted by a friendly face on reception, who took my name and asked me to follow her down some stairs to the changing rooms, where I was given a fluffy white robe and towel. Next I made my way to the relaxation room, which was pretty impressive- a small, cosy room with comfy looking beds, green rugs and blue walls, designed to make you feel like you are in a kind of country oasis, with nice relaxing music playing softly in the background.
I filled out a record card, answering the usual kind of questions such as “what am I looking for in my treatment”, to which the answer was easy- RELAXATION PLEASE!
I was then asked to follow my therapist into the treatment room, which was dimly lit and smelt wonderful, where it was explained what was going to happen – a full body massage and soothing foot treatment awaited and was I looking forward to it? Oh yes.
I was asked what kind of oil I preferred the smell of and I went with the ESPA Restorative Oil or ‘hug in a bottle’ as it is known , this contained rose geranium, orange, sweet almond oil, lavender and palma rose. I promptly made myself comfortable on the couch, which as it happened was heated – brilliant!
My massage began and there were a few moves in there I had not experienced before during a massage, such as the arm stretches, which at first were a little strange having never had my arm stretched that far behind my back before, but I soon got used to it and realised it was all for my own benefit and actually everyone should have a good arm stretch every now and again, as it really loosened me up…
The rest of the massage was extremely relaxing and even included as stomach massage- something not all salons do, but as I suffer with IBS, it is something I am aware I need regularly so it was much appreciated.
Now it was time for the soothing foot treatment which began with an exfoliation of my feet and a removal of the grainy product with a hot mitt- divine was the word that sprang to mind.
My feet were smothered in more ESPA products and every inch massaged until I nearly nodded off and then covered with a towel.
My face and head were the last on the list to be pampered and a scalp massage was on the agenda – my favourite bit- the pressure points were all taken care of and a body re-alignment also took place across my face I was told afterwards, which felt very ‘holistic’.
At the end of my treatment I was offered water and taken back through to the relaxation room, where there were fragrances of lemon and tonka bean coming from the diffuser- time to relax again.
After I had come around from the heavenly treatment I decided to take a dip in the new pool, swam a few lengths and then tried out the steam room and the Jacuzzi, finishing off with another session of laying down- this time on one of the heated, stone chairs facing the wall mural of the beach…slowly drifting…
My wonderful twilight experience was then finished off with a two course lunch and a glass of wine in the restaurant and with three hours free parking in the hotel ‘s car park adjoining the building, I have to say everything was covered and I look forward to going again to try out one of their other amazing packages…
