Recently I visited one of my favourite Nottingham bars Revolution, Hockley, but instead of indulging in one or two of their adventurous cocktails, I was escaping out of the office for an hour or so for lunch to sample their new menu…
As it was lunchtime and I am prone to food slumps during the day when eating too much, I decided to give the starters a miss and dive straight into a main course and choices were endless, with some really interesting and innovative ideas on the menu.
The Holy Smoke Halloumi Wrap looked just what the doctor ordered, which was served on a wooden block with rocket & a strong lemon dressing- very tasty and just the right size for a quick lunch.
My lunch guest however went a little further and opted for the HUGE ‘Triple Overload’- yes the name says it all really, – a beef burger to which piled on top came buttermilk fried chicken, pulled pork, smoked cheddar, served on a triple sweet brioche bun, covered in garlic and their famous Armageddon sauce (hot !) Oh and finished off with a sprinkling of BBQ crackling puffs with viper fries on the side-phew!
I didn’t hear a peep from my lunch guest throughout the entire lunch, I’m guessing due to the fact that the burger was so overwhelming and – a challenge at that, plus afterwards I was informed that it was absolutely delicious, packed full of flavour and that it was much better than some of the leading burger chain restaurants attempts.
The waitress even mentioned when serving said burger that a number of their male staff had attempted and failed to finish the dish and so this I think spurred him on even further to achieve the great burger challenge- waitress was very impressed.
I was keen to sample the brand new dessert on the menu- ‘The Banoffee Fluffwich’ and had no idea what this would look like, all I knew was that it contained soft dough, caramel, marshmallow fluff (yes this really does exist) banana, sweet batter and strawberry dip.
When it arrived the ‘wich’ part of the play on the name really did make sense, as it was just that- a sandwich made from batter/dough containing all the sweet and lovely ingredients mentioned with a sugary dip – too sweet for me but entirely sufficient for my dinner guest.
All in all I’d very much recommend lunch /dinner at Revolution, the menu really is a delight to browse – with so much choice and exciting options such as Cherry Cola Chicken Wrap, (buttermilk fried chicken with a cherry cola glaze) Macphilly Cheese Steak (A steak burger with mac & cheese on top) and the very rustic looking deli crates- all priced really well and served with great enthusiasm.
I will most certainly be lunching at ‘Revs’ again.
