As we all know stress can negatively affect anyone, especially in the workplace.
Happy and healthy employees make productive employees - in return the employer loses fewer days due to sick time off, stress related issues and repetitive strain injuries.
A workplace massage cannot only help to relieve employees' work-related stress and tension, but it can also help to improve productivity, boost the immune system, improve circulation, reduce muscle pain, relieve headaches, improve mental capabilities, lower blood pressure, and enhance flexibility. Not to mention, how valued they would feel being treated to a massage at work.
Workplace massage is usually carried out on a portable massage chair. The therapist comes to the workplace and sets the chair up in a small area of the building that's been arranged so as to provide adequate privacy - this can often be a meeting room or a quiet corner. The massage chair is designed to allow the employee to feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible. The massage focuses on the back, shoulders, arms, and hands. No oils or lotions are necessary as this massage is fully clothed and can be done through work attire.
The treatment usually lasts between 10 and 20 minutes and is generally aimed towards relieving stress and tension and treating repetitive strain injuries.
After the workplace massage employees are left refreshed and ready to return to work immediately.
A study published in the International Journal of Neuroscience found that a 15-minute chair massage administered twice a week over a period of five weeks reduced anxiety and improved alertness.
So even if you feel that your workforce is functioning perfectly well at the moment you may want to consider workplace massage as a preventative measure in order to help keep your workers fit and healthy and employee morale high.
Who Pays? There are a couple of options available. An employer may pay the entire cost of the treatment, or the staff may pay for the cost of their individual treatment, leaving the employer to only arrange the 10-20 minutes out of work for each member.
