Natural Wellness with Woke Wellbeing
As a big believer in natural, holistic therapies as well as being aware of the importance of self-care and work-life balance, I was pleased to finally allow myself the time to visit The Natural Wellness Centre on Derby Road in Nottingham for the first time, having driven past it several times since it opened…
The centre houses several businesses, who use its fantastic facilities to operate within, as well as showcasing local artistic talent through it’s ‘Creative Corner’ and shop selling everything from artwork to crystals. The centre also houses a wellness café, a yoga studio (which can house other exercise and dance classes) as well as retreats, classes and workshops, of which there is a regularly updated events calendar to select from.
Woke Wellbeing, are one of the companies housed within the centre who I had the pleasure of visiting recently and Ajay and Sarah who run this holistic wellbeing business have the most infectious passion and enthusiasm for what they do in helping people to feel the best versions of themselves.
I arrived to a very warm welcome and was within the first few minutes offered the opportunity to pick a crystal, or rather let the crystal pick me as they say and was almost immediately drawn towards the Blue Caribbean Calcite, known for its healing properties with stress and exhaustion- sounds about right!
I was given a show-around by Sarah and was impressed by the facilities at The Natural Wellness Centre, which even has an intimate and quiet sanctuary ‘indoor garden area’ downstairs which can act as a chillout space pre or post treatment, as well as a co working space.
Next came my treatment and Sarah delivered the loveliest, most relaxing hour long full body massage, which I came away from floating on a cloud, as well as a half an hour reiki treatment, which I found so interesting.
Having experienced reiki before, I knew roughly what to expect, however came with an open mind as each session is different, dependent upon how you are feeling and this time I noticed a few colours as I closed my eyes including the warmth of yellow, followed by the coldness of blue. Following my treatment Sarah gave me an in-depth consultation to explain her findings which related to my chakras and emotions, along with some friendly advice and even a few suggestions of useful stretches I could implement myself at home to help with my posture and tense back and given she is a qualified personal trainer, I was very grateful for the advice and have implemented the stretches into my routine most night’s since before bed.
My visit concluded with a final tour of some of the other treatment rooms, where the other therapists operate from, offering various treatments and even counselling sessions.
Woke Wellbeing are an example of a wonderful independently ran local business here in our city of Nottingham and Ajay and Sarah’s drive and ambition to create a space for people to feel great through their various offerings is plain to see and inspires you to ‘want’ to support them further in their goals.
Did you know a whopping 35.2 million estimated work days are lost due to work-related ill health and non-fatal workplace injuries in 2022/23 (Health & Safety Exec) and so at Woke Wellbeing their mantra is prevention is better than cure by launching brand-new corporate packages into your workplace via bespoke in-person individual or group sessions, with therapies also offered remotely or at the wellness centre.
Treatments on their menu include:
- Intuitive massage (massage table or seated chair)
- Reiki healing
- Stress Management workshops
- Neuro-Linguistic Programming tools and techniques,
- Personal training sessions and associated nutrition advice
- Weekly mindful meditation
They are also working towards the launch of a ‘Wellbeing Community Hub’ to Nottingham, where members can access a like-minded tribe to stave off isolation and loneliness, whilst enjoying the benefits of an array of supportive health and wellbeing treatments and resources including: yoga, Pilates and keep-fit videos, topical podcasts and talks, demonstrations and information exchange sessions; as well as discounted offers on their massages and Reiki sessions- or you can simply head over to the centre and enjoy the oasis of calm and ‘just be.’
This is one place I will most definitely be returning to and I look forward to experiencing more treatments in the future, as well as supporting the great work that Ajay and Sarah do.
