Nicco’s Contemporary Indian Dining & Cocktail Bar
A recent visit to Nicco’s located on Pride Park in Derby proved a success, as I decided to spend my first time at this contemporary Indian restaurant sampling the lunch options…
The first thing to note is the prime location on the popular business park, located on the A52 between Nottingham and Derby and as such is able to provide ample parking on site- a practical plus, especially given my commute was from Nottingham and I am not altogether familiar with Derby as a city.
Upon arrival the entrance welcome was charming, featuring a photo worthy floral covered doorway, which provided a lovely backdrop for a few snaps.
We were greeted and shown to our table- a comfortable booth adjacent to the open kitchen and handed menus by our server Paola, who took good care of us throughout our visit. It was difficult not to notice the stunning olive tree decorated with lights in the centre of the restaurant, acting as the main focal point and put into perspective just how large this place really is.
After ordering water and wine from the menu, we were presented with an impressive selection of food options and depending on how hungry we were, options included main curry courses with side dishes, a specials section and fish, meat and veg dishes from the grill, along with salad and noodles. I was pleased to see a separate vegetarian segment offering dishes such as Palak Paneer and Kofta Curry, as well as a substantial small plate menu with plenty of veggie options there too.
My eye however was drawn to the section offering their famous Naanwichs and my mind was made up there and then- Achari Paneer Tikka Naanwich, Indian cottage cheese served with fresh salad, wrapped in a naan bread and drizzled with mint chutney- tasty!
My dining partner (my mother) decided to go for the healthy option – the Palak Paneer, again Indian cottage cheese, this time served with fresh spinach, onions, tomatoes, herbs and spices with chips on the side.
A post lunch visit to the ladies toilets delivered one of the highlights of our visit, as we entered into an enchanting cherry blossom themed room, filled with gold guilted mirrors, floor to ceiling marble and even a peacock! This space was certainly ‘Instagramable’ and we were told by Paola that many a lady enters and stays for far longer than usual, trying to capture the perfect selfie 😊
After a little break, we decided to share a dessert and opted for the strawberry cheesecake, a light sweet and just the right sized delight, presented beautifully and topped with honeycomb and fresh strawberries, which worked really well alongside a well made latte.
As we looked up from our lunch bubble, we realised the restaurant had filled with families, couples and groups of friends, all like us enjoying a lunchtime treat, Nicco’s is clearly a popular place to visit and I will definitely be returning for more myself.
