The New Menu Arrives at Cosy Club

The Cosy Club is a popular group of stylish bar restaurants located across the UK and I am lucky enough to have one of their most stunning sites in my home city of Nottingham and that’s exactly where I headed recently to sample their new menu…

The Nottingham venue formally known as the famous Victoria Club in Nottingham, has kept its traditional charm- think mahogany furniture, huge crystal chandeliers – the kind you might find on the Titanic and paintings- lots of portrait paintings donning the walls, the charm has not been lost since the Cosy Club group took over this site a few years ago, in fact they have only enhanced it; the giant stair case leading to the restaurant, cocktail bar, private dining room (The Byron Room) and function suite – The Imperial of which I have both attended and hosted several events within.

This time, my focus was the restaurant- a stunning space with a cosy, warm feel almost like being home from home.  The seating was comfortable and the atmosphere vibrant, with the restaurant almost full, the audience is very much mixed, which is nice to see.

The new menu had not long been launched and so mum and I had the pleasure of trying out some of the latest dishes and as we are both vegetarian, it was interesting to see what chef had in store for us.

I opted for the Crispy goats cheese & beetroot salad, which arrived with Aged balsamic marinated beetroots, grilled courgette, white bean purée, sunflower seeds and a mustard vinaigrette and it was a good choice, given I love a warm salad… goats cheese… and beetroot, my only complaint would be that I wanted more of it as it was so good!

Mum went for a few small plates, as she prefers those to large dishes and so her selection consisted of the Burrata and baby pear salad, served with toasted pine nuts and mustard vinaigrette, the Traditional Iraqi Laffa Flatbread with butter and sea salt and the Thyme Roasted Mushrooms with soured cream, to which the flatbread came in handy for dipping.

We were originally going to share a dessert as we often do, however due to the impressive selection on the menu, we decided to be devils and have one each and brave we were, as mum opted for her first ever Affogato – a popular Italian sweet treat consisting of a couple of scoops of vanilla pod ice cream served with pour your own Espresso coffee shot and she loved it!

I however went for the chef special Brûléed Miso Caramel Custard Tart  again served with vanilla pod ice cream and shortbread crumb- A recipe created by chef Fabio, from Cosy Club Bristol, a nice personal touch and one of the reasons I went for it- delicious!

The wine menu is extensive, with good quality house wines and for the non drinkers, they offer a lovely choice of teetotal tipples and coolers such as pink lemonade and  Morning Cooler (lemon, elderflower and mint, finished with soda and cucumber).

Our server Nathan was nothing short of excellent- very attentive with a great personality, he made us feel welcome and chatted to us intermittently.  In fact there were ample staff floating across the restaurant throughout our lunch, which is great to see in this climate and all were friendly and efficient.

Lunch at Cosy Club is not just lunch, it is an experience – from the beautiful nostalgic surroundings, to the bustling atmosphere, top notch service and great food, it really is a must to visit for brunch, lunch, dinner or just drinks- take your pick!
