Box Sports Bar & Kitchen

Nottingham’s exciting new addition Box Sports Bar & Kitchen, located in the old All Saints building is certainly a force to be reckoned with, given its size, beautiful listed building full of character and tailored sports viewing and live music offerings…

I was invited along with a few friends to sample the new menu and experience what Box has to offer and I wasn’t disappointed.  The first point to note is the electric atmosphere, helped by the live ‘Bandeoke’ (a concept I had not heard of before), where the general public join the live band to sing a number on the screen- some were better than others I may add, but the entertainment suits the venues vibe and so we embraced it as we ate our way through the American style menu.

The service from Molly and her team was very tentative and we opted to take advantage of the 241 cocktail offerings.  Our table also mostly chose the healthy chicken salad options which came with a bit of a chilli kick, however we also picked at Halloumi fries, chilli cauliflower bites and nachos which were all very tasty.  One useful bonus was that they provide you with quality pots with lids for any leftover food you may wish to take home with you, which I tend to always like to do- waste not want not!

Following dinner, we made our way to the Shuffleboard table for a few competitive team games, which provided lots of laughter – my first time playing this fantastic social game.

The venue itself is huge, with plenty of seating and the piece de resistance is what they call ‘The Dome’ within the venue; a high dome shaped ceiling featuring the biggest mirror ball you have ever seen which shadows over the stage area- the perfect area for private events.

Upstairs are some impressive toilets – large with plenty of showbiz lit mirrors and neon signages – made totally ‘Instagram friendly’ for those inclined.  There is also a fun photobooth and two private dining/karaoke rooms which can double up as conference facilities, as they feature large television screens should you wish to plug in your USB stick for your power-point presentation or simply show videos.

The refit has been done to a high standard and is just what Nottingham needed to fill that fresh and shiny new sports bar gap, in particular for large numbers, as it features ample screens around the venue showing football and boxing matches to name a few, so do look out  for special sports event and themed nights, though if sports aren’t your thing, this is still a great bar to head to if you’re looking for simple food made well, a vibrant atmosphere and a game of Shuffleboard!
